Born in Lombard in 2021, Spiritus was founded by Jason Holman and Nick Bianco as a response to life's chaos — a quiet rebellion against mindless consumption. We believe a great cup of coffee isn't just about flavor. It's about slowing down, breathing in, and returning to yourself.

We honor the ancient roots of coffee. The earliest coffee drinkers were mystics — Sufi monks in Yemen who used it as a tool for spiritual focus during prayer. In Ethiopia, coffee ceremonies still embody deep community and presence.

"Spiritus" is Latin for both "breath" and "spirit" — a perfect name for a brand devoted to renewal.
Our inspiration also comes from Carl Jung's phrase "Spiritus contra spiritum" — the idea that spirit (presence, truth, connection) is the antidote to the spirits (addiction, chaos, distraction). That philosophy is stitched into our story. Spiritus was born from the founders' own journeys through burnout, addiction, and healing — and we've seen how a single mindful cup can become a daily anchor in dark times.
We roast in small batches right here in Lombard, ensuring that your coffee is always fresh and full of soul. Our subscription service makes it easy to keep Spiritus in your home — bringing moments of stillness to your door. Every order is lovingly fulfilled by hand through our partnership with SEAL Academy Lombard (School, Education, Arts, and Learning). Their transition students gain valuable job skills and work experience while ensuring your coffee arrives with the care and attention it deserves. This collaboration embodies our belief that meaningful work transforms lives — one carefully packed order at a time.
