About Spiritus
Spiritus Coffee Co. began in Lombard, Illinois with a simple conviction: a cup of coffee can be an anchor, and a business built around that cup can carry people further than caffeine ever will. The story since then has been one transformation after another. Each time, the coffee stayed at the center; what it funds kept growing.
Where it began
We did not start as Still Here; we started with the idea behind it: coffee as a daily practice of returning to yourself, and a way to stand with the mental health and recovery communities that carried us through our own hardest seasons. We are not experts on recovery or spirituality; we are enthusiasts who struggle, and who found in the morning cup a quiet place to begin again. We keep that idea alive today through Still Here, and that founding idea still shapes everything we roast, even as other ideas presented themselves along the way and grew into what Spiritus has become.
What it became
The idea grew into a working roastery: local, fresh, small batch, specialty, fresh roasted coffee for Lombard and DuPage County. Every coffee is specialty grade, cupping 85 or higher. We roast after you order, hand deliver to neighbors and subscribers, and get to know the people who drink our coffee by name. Freshness here is not a slogan; it is the whole logistics model.
The turn
Ralph reached out from the School of Expressive Arts and Learning (S.E.A.L.) in Lombard with an invitation to work together. Nick said yes to all of it and moved the roastery into the school. What began as a partnership became the biggest part of the business: an employment program, a cafe inside the school, and a fulfillment room where every order that ships gets packed. Why we do this
The coffee is table stakes.
For a roaster, great coffee is the entry fee. What Spiritus is really about is what the coffee funds: first paid jobs, real skills, and a community that gets to watch people grow. This is coffee with a purpose, and it is why we keep roasting.

The future
More producer relationships, sought out for quality and character and honored with fair, direct purchases. And more first jobs, because every new bag of coffee we sell makes room for another person to learn, earn, and belong. That is the plan; it does not get more complicated than that.
